It took me forever to finally realize that I know how to make money.Ā
My coach had been telling me this for months but I didn't believe her. I just kept on listening to the thoughts my mind was offering that I donāt know what Iām doing, everyone else has the answers but me, and everyone else is better at this than I am.Ā Ā
Sometimes we get tripped up by thoughts that go unquestioned.Ā
But then I asked myself...could it be true that I DO know how to make money? And the answer is empirically, yes! I have tax returns, bank statements, and Quickbooks to prove that yes, I know how to make money and I've been making pretty good money for the last 15 years - yes, some years better than others, but nevertheless, I always figured out how to make money in my business.Ā Ā
Of course my inner critic is always saying it's not enough or won't be enough until I hit whatever number is the next goal out of my reach. My mind likes moving the goalpost on me. When I started offering coaching exclusively ...
One of my mentors was recently talking aboutĀ buying an expensive carĀ that her dealer told her is generally purchased by pro athletes. Her point was that we as women too can create pro athlete level income as entrepreneurs. I agree 100%! But...
Then I got to thinking aboutĀ what I know about pro athletesĀ and how they get to that level. Elite-level athletes get there with incredible amounts of commitment, determination, and discipline.
They rarely coast or rest on past success,Ā they are driven to continual improvement... not out of lack of being good enough,Ā but out of love. Love for their sport, love of pushing the limits, love of mastery. They love spending the time and effort to perfect their craft!
As solopreneurs,Ā we too can create elite-level results in our businessĀ and it doesnāt have to require more time or sacrificing our values. It requires asking better questions of ourselves, likeāāhow can I create greater value for my clients?āĀ I believe we each have it in us! And we can do it o...
Itās hard to believe, butĀ simplicity, not complexity is one of the secrets to successfully scaling your business and growing your sales.
I know in our current business hustle culture thatās not what we hear very often. Weāre always hearing and seeing all the other things we *should* be adding to the list of stuff weāll never get to thatās supposed to grow our sales.Ā
But Iām here to tell you this is bullshit advice!Ā
When weāre caught up in doing all the things everyone else says we should be doing to market and sell our services, we are getting further and further away from our ideal clients and what we actually enjoy doing and do well.
Before long weāre bogged down in editing podcasts, writing content, recording videos, writing posts...all activities that are not required to meet people and serve them (and make lots of money!).
So, what does it actually mean, in practice to simplify our business?Ā
Itās removing all the friction between you and your potential clients. So, whatev...
āGotta get while the getting's good!ā
āMake hay while the sun shines!ā
Weāve all said these types of things before, thought them, even believe thatĀ if we donāt take advantage of all the opportunities that come our way weāre screwed!
Truth is, this kind of thinking has us taking on projects we donāt want, clients we donāt like, running around like chickens without our heads, busting our butts, and hustling until we drop like dead people into bed every night!
And, what if the āgettinā is always good, doesnāt slow down...then what?!
I was coaching a client this week on this very topic. Sheās in real estate and has been very busy for a long time. Sheās built an amazingly strong business but still feels like sheās got to take every buyer or listing that comes her way...because what if they all go away tomorrow?
Yes, it sounds a little dramatic, but thatās often what our monkey minds want us to believe, right?!
What I know for sure is that this line of thinkingĀ doesn't serve usĀ because it'sĀ rooted ...
As I write to you today I'm at cruising altitude on a Southwest flight to Tampa to meet with my coach and mastermind for a couple days of meetings.
Preparing for this trip and two days of meetings has me deep in thought about belief. During our meetings we will be planning out our businesses for the next 4 years and how we're scaling to $1 million in revenue and beyond. Sounds simple enough, eh? Uh, no. It's exhilarating and scary as hell, all rolled into one!
But it's all worthless, pie-in-the-sky, airy-fairy bullshit if I don't believe it's ever going to happen for me. I don't have to believe 100% that I can build a million dollar company, but I do have to believe that it's possible.
I do believe it's possible because I've watched my coach and plenty of other peers do it, so there's that, a teeny-tiny kernel of belief.
I like to think of belief in my ability to build a million dollar business like I think of my ability to take this plane ride and end up in Tampa.
I know it's pos...
