How to Smooth Out the Ups and Downs of Business

“Gotta get while the getting's good!”

“Make hay while the sun shines!”

We’ve all said these types of things before, thought them, even believe that if we don’t take advantage of all the opportunities that come our way we’re screwed!

Truth is, this kind of thinking has us taking on projects we don’t want, clients we don’t like, running around like chickens without our heads, busting our butts, and hustling until we drop like dead people into bed every night!

And, what if the ‘gettin’ is always good, doesn’t slow down...then what?!

I was coaching a client this week on this very topic. She’s in real estate and has been very busy for a long time. She’s built an amazingly strong business but still feels like she’s got to take every buyer or listing that comes her way...because what if they all go away tomorrow?

Yes, it sounds a little dramatic, but that’s often what our monkey minds want us to believe, right?!

What I know for sure is that this line of thinking doesn't serve us because it's rooted in lack and scarcity, like “I've got to get all I can now because it could all go away tomorrow.”

This isn’t true, it’s not all going away tomorrow...and even if it did, you’d figure out how to create it all again, because if you created it all once, you can do it again...and even faster and easier the next time around. Allow yourself to take that in and feel supported by it.

Thoughts that are rooted in fear and scarcity keep us stuck on the hamster wheel of hustle and make it harder to scale and grow. They stifle our creativity and take our focus away from our mission and who we’re serving.

What actually creates sustainable growth and a business we love working in is:
