I was talking to a client yesterday about starting an email newsletter. She knew it was the right next step for her business but she just couldn’t bring herself to produce the next boring email newsletter clogging up inboxes and taking a whole bunch of her time and energy but not creating any new business.
Yes, there is a better way, I told her! And it’s so much easier too!
Here’s the big REVEAL: Let your emails and any other marketing communication be more of a reflection of you...your personality, your sense of humor, your tone of voice.
Here’s how:
>> Write like you speak. Be a normal human. Forget what corporate professional culture tells us! Break the mold and just be yourself in your writing...and all communications for that matter. If you have trouble with writing how you would talk, use the dictation function in your favorite software - both MS Word and Google Docs have it...or record on your phone.
>> Think of your BFF or your Favorite Client. Visualization time! When you sit down to write, close your eyes and imagine you are sitting across from your bestie or your favorite client. One person. See her face? How do you feel in her presence, get in that energy, allow that smile to spread across your face. Now open your eyes and with that feeling, that energy, begin writing (or talk typing) as if you’re talking to her.
>> Keep it Simple Stupid. I went to school a LONG time ago...back when we could still stay ‘stupid’ (not that I allow my kids to now) and this is a principle I learned in said OLD school but it works today. Keep your copy short, punchy, and easy to read. We’re all busy and have short attention spans so it doesn’t mean we don’t love you but please, keep it short. Enough said.
This is all part of creating a compelling offer and creating more clients and more money in your business.
